Introduction to the Center for Quantum Technologies
Nowadays, extensive theoretical and experimental research is being conducted in various countries in the field of quantum technologies. Considering the significance of the discipline of "Quantum Science and Technology" in modern technologies and its close connection with fundamental sciences such as chemistry, physics, mathematics, psychology, and biology on the one hand, and the future technological needs of the country in the quantum domain on the other, this field is regarded as one of the major branches of physics. Given the country’s urgent need for advancements in quantum technologies, the presence of experienced and young experts and faculty members in the Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics Group as well as the Optics and Laser Group of the Faculty of Physics at the University of Tabriz—and being the leading university in northwest Iran—the establishment and activity of the Quantum Technologies Research Center at the University of Tabriz is highly essential.
The Quantum Technologies Center, with its wide range of applications in society and industry, aims to train dedicated domestic specialists in this field and to foster active competition with developed countries at the frontiers of science. It also seeks to implement major fundamental and applied research projects and to strengthen collaborations with both domestic and international universities in this domain.
The University of Tabriz possesses outstanding human and technical resources in quantum physics—particularly in quantum technologies, quantum chemistry, and quantum life sciences. Establishing connections among these fields can lead to the creation and advancement of interdisciplinary research activities, promoting their development within the university and across the country. One of the most significant and practical interdisciplinary areas is quantum technologies, which, given the independent research activities of faculty members in the aforementioned fields, has found a strong foundation for further growth.
